Working as part of a team to ensure a high standard of nursing care and safety for patients within the theatre unit.

CARE MANAGEMENT
 

  • Assesses patient care requirements independently and agrees with the patient the level of nursing care required, involving the main carer where appropriate.
  • Delivers appropriate patient care.
  • Evaluates care outcomes and knows how to respond to an emergency situation.
  • Is able to take the lead in an emergency situation.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures relating to administration of medicines, blood and blood products are followed.
  • Implements and evaluates patient care around infection control measures.
  •  


CUSTOMER FOCUS
 

  • Takes appropriate action in regards to a patient’s or doctor’s complaint.
  • Demonstrates awareness of appropriate actions and resources to deal with conflict of informed consent principles.
  • Takes positive action to promote equal opportunities for both staff and patients.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Ensures that patients comfort, dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.
  • Ensures that all incidents/accidents/near misses are appropriately recorded and reported.
  • Ensures that own and practice of others is within an ethical and legal framework.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner at all times and acts as a role model for others.
  • Acts within the boundaries of and in accordance with the HCA and other Professional Organisational codes of Conduct.

MANAGEMENT OF STAFF RESOURCES
 

  • Carries out supervision of staff resources in an efficient and effective way.
  • Participates in procurement and management of resources.
  • Proactively participates in capturing revenue
  • Implements local, corporate and statutory Health and Safety Policies and ensures staff comply with all measures.
  • Understands the Clinical Governance process.
  • Participates in implementing and evaluating nationally set standards.
  • Works with colleagues in order to facilitate cohesive teamwork.
  • Identifies and addresses own performance
  • Recognises good performance
  • Promotes evidence based/research based clinical practice.
  • Participates in local teaching initiatives.
  • Communicates delivery and outcomes of care to patients to other members of the MDT.

COMMUNICATION
 

  • Ensure that patient rights are respected at all times.
  • Provides a comprehensive hand-over at change of shift to senior colleague.
  • Recognises and deals with interpersonal issues in an effective and appropriate way.
  • Ensures that all documentation relating to patient care is within the boundaries of the National and Corporate guidelines for good record keeping.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 years + continuous theatre experience to present date
  • Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures
