Training for Registered Staff
Each time we receive notification of courses and training on
offer, we email all staff to let you know. While we
appreciate that not everything will be relevant for you, we prefer
not to make assumptions and so will advise you of all opportunities
available. If you hear of anything that you think other
staff may be interested in, please do forward it to us for
distribution. Equally, If there is anything in particular
that you would like to hear about, we would be happy to research
any opportunities for you.
If you have Training Allowance due (see below) you may be able
to claim the cost of the course from Geneva.
All training below can be credited towards the 20 hours per year
(or more in the case of Midwives) required for your Annual
Practising Certificate. Geneva will issue certificates for
your portfolios.
Annual Update
Each year we endeavour to run an "Annual Update" covering core
competencies such as Fire Safety, Restraint Minimisation, Scope of
Practice etc. In recent times, the demand for this course has
dropped. If you are interested, please do let us know.
Once we have enough people expressing an interest, we can then
schedule a date.
Alaris AD Pump / Continence Management /
Wound Management / Medications (registered
staff)
These are all sessions that are run once or twice a year
in Auckland, depending on demand. Should we hear of
any such sessions running in other parts of the country, we will
certainly let you know.
IV Certification / Cannulation /
Phlebotomy (registered staff)
There are a variety of ways these certificates can be gained,
depending on the area in which you work. Please speak to your
consultant or the training department to find out more.
Professional Development Forum for
Midwives (Auckland only)
We have a group of midwives who regularly meet to provide 20
minute case studies/presentations to their peers. In this
way, each person can achieve 5 points towards their Professional
Development requirements and be guaranteed an audience! Once
again, this is a great opportunity for professionals to get
together and learn from each other's research and experience.
Perhaps a group of RNs may be interested in doing something
similar?
Training/APC Allowance
Registered Nurses, Midwives, Enrolled
Nurses: We appreciate that meeting the requirements
set by the Nursing & Midwifery Council to renew your Annual
Practising Certificate (APC) can be time consuming and costly.
Therefore Geneva Health would like to offer all Registered Nurses,
Registered Midwives, Enrolled Nurses currently working with us some
assistance with this, in the form of a Training Allowance.
For every 500 hours worked from joining the Geneva Health
Agency, you will be entitled to $75.00 towards either training
courses or your Annual Practising Certificate, up to a maximum of
$300 per year. This is in addition to the CPR and Wound Management
courses that we run as a matter of course.
To claim this training allowance you need to provide a receipt
for the relevant course and your certificate of attendance. We will
then credit the refund to your bank account. (Note refunds cannot
be paid for courses undertaken prior to the required number of
hours being met.)
