Professional Registration
Nursing and Midwifery
To work in the UK all nurses and midwives must register with the
Nurse and Midwifery Council (NMC), and acquire a Personal

Midwifes working in the UK. Please be aware initial registration
can be a lengthy process and take up to 8 months to complete.
Your NMC registration must be renewed every year.
The process to obtain an NMC registration varies depending on if
you are an EU applicant or overseas applicant.
For EU trained applicants the process is relatively
straightforward and unless you are from new member states; Bulgaria
and Romania you do not require a work permit. To find our
more you can call one of our Recruitment Consultants or refer to
the NMC website.
For overseas trained applicants a pre-requisite to getting your
NMC registration is the completion of the 20 days overseas nursing programme,
plus where appropriate, a period of supervised practice.
